Thinking Social Media for Your Next Contest? These Three Tips Can Help
Social media platforms are a great place to launch a contest because of their inherent shareability. They’re just so social! If you haven’t yet tried a social media contest, though, you may be a bit leery of where and how to get started. These tips can help.
Choose a Creative Prize
This is one of the most important steps you can take at the outset. You want a prize that actually works for your target audience. Keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be huge to be worthwhile. Just make certain that it’s a worthwhile endeavor for those you want to interact with most. You may want to try to choose a prize that is relevant to what you do as a company. If it’s not, you’re going to get plenty of people signing up, but they won’t all be good leads for your company.
Establish Some Benchmarks
You’re not just running a contest out of the goodness of your heart. You should have real marketing goals behind your upcoming contest. Understanding whether you’ve met those goals means knowing where you’ve been and where you go after the contest. You may want to record the number of email subscribers you have, how many followers you have on each of your accounts, and maybe even the average number of visitors you have on your site. Once the contest is over, you’ll want to look at those numbers again to see if it was worthwhile.
Protect Your Business
As with any contest, those that you decide to run on social media do have to be within the bounds of the law and other applicable regulations. Keep in mind that not only do federal, state, and local laws apply to social media contests, but so do the rules of each platform. Every major social media platform has certain regulations you must follow to promote a contest, so familiarize yourself with those before you move forward.
